Finding Balance: Achieving Wellbeing in a Busy Life

Do you often feel overwhelmed by the demands of daily life, struggling to find time for yourself amidst work and family commitments? You're not alone. Many people (me included) face similar challenges and that’s why I developed a reflective and compassionate approach at Brave Move. With the right strategies and mindset, you can transform your wellbeing and lead a more balanced, fulfilling life no matter your schedule.

Embrace Mindfulness in Daily Life

Mindfulness isn't just for meditation sessions—it's a tool you can use throughout your day and I use it constantly. Whether you're sipping your morning coffee, commuting to work or winding down in the evening, taking a few moments to be present can make a HUGE difference to your quality of life. Notice the flavours, the sounds, the sensations. This practice helps reduce stress and increase your sense of calm and clarity.

Prioritise Self-Care Without Guilt

It's incredibly common to feel guilty about taking time for yourself, especially when you have a lot on your plate and others to care for. However, we have to realise the self-care is essential, rather than a luxury. Schedule regular 'me-time' and treat it as a non-negotiable appointment. Remember, when you take care of yourself, you’re better equipped to take care of everything and everyone else in your life. To help you get there, take a moment to answer: “If I was feeling energised, healthy and in my flow everyday, who in my life would benefit?”. You can then start to notice how wide spreading and impactful you being well taken care of truly is. Selfcare is far from selfish.

All Go And No Rest?

To achieve this balance, it’s crucial to incorporate practices that allow for both activation and deactivation. For instance, after a busy day full of tasks and responsibilities, engaging in mindfulness practices like meditation or breathwork can help shift your nervous system from a state of action to one of rest and digest. Techniques such as extended exhale breathing or box breathing are particularly effective in calming the body and mind, promoting a sense of equilibrium.

By consciously balancing our periods of high energy and activity with moments of rest and recovery, we support our nervous system in functioning optimally this is why we teach classes such as ‘Mindful HIIT’ on Brave On-Demand and Outdoor Brave Bootcamp Classes. This balance not only enhances our physical health but also nurtures emotional resilience, allowing us to move through life with greater ease, flow, and vitality.

Don’t Forget to Have Fun

An often overlooked are of our wellbeing that can put you out of balance is - joy. We can get stuck in a ‘all work and no play’ state of mind where we constantly prioritise being productive over having some fun. This can keep our nervous system in ‘fight-flight-freeze’ and add to high levels of stress. But I don’t want you to wait for your one holiday a year to start to relax and have fun - instead it is about finding moments of joy in your everyday. Prioritise activities that you genuinely enjoy, whether it's reading a book, going to a fun dance class or simply using your favourite mug to have a cuppa. Joy is essential and should never be overlooked.

Create a Supportive Environment

The path to true balance is not one we have to walk alone. As Brené Brown famously said, "Connection is why we're here; it is what gives purpose and meaning to our lives."

Community plays a vital role in bringing us into balance, offering a space where we can not only rest and recharge but also feel seen, supported, and understood. When we connect with others who share our journey, we experience a powerful sense of belonging that helps us move out of constant activation and into a state of equilibrium. Whether it's through shared practices or simply being in the presence of others who understand our struggles, community provides the support we need to truly come into balance. Take small daily steps

The journey to wellness isn't about quick fixes or drastic changes—it's about embracing the process, allowing each small step to guide you toward a life of greater balance, flow, and vitality. By committing to these daily practices, you set the stage for meaningful, sustainable growth. Instead of feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to make sweeping changes, focus on the power of consistent, intentional actions. These small steps, when practiced regularly, build momentum and lead to lasting transformation.

Integrate Relaxation Techniques

Incorporate relaxation techniques like deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, or guided imagery into your routine. These practices can help manage stress and promote a sense of peace and relaxation, making it easier to cope with daily pressures and bring yourself back into balance.

Seek Professional Guidance

Sometimes, having a professional guide can make all the difference to help us see what we can’t. Whether it’s through one-to-one sessions, workshops or online courses, personalised support can help you address specific challenges and achieve your wellbeing goals more effectively.

Conclusion

By implementing these strategies, you can start to feel more balanced and in control of your wellbeing. Remember, the journey to a healthier, happier you is a continuous process, and every small step counts. Here at Brave Move, we’re dedicated to supporting you every step of the way.
